Setting of the Song: Shashi (Sridevi) travels from India to the United states to help her sister prepare for her daughter's wedding. Shashi's husband and children come later. The wedding is held at her sister's house. After considering many other songs, family members agree to use this Marathi folk song suggested by Shashi's mother-in-law. Part of the song shows the family members and guests rehearsing and making wedding preparations. Later part of the song shows the wedding ceremony.
About the movie: English Vinglish is a well made movie. The movie was critically acclaimed and was also commercially successful. It centers around Shashi (Sridevi), a homemaker in India, who also runs a small business from her home. She feels inadequate and lacks confidence because she is not able to speak English well. She can speak a few English words but gets nervous and tongue-tied whenever she has to speak English. The movie shows her journey as she overcomes her inferiority complex and gains confidence in her own ability. Sridevi has given one of her best performances in the movie. Unfortunately, a few years after making this movie, Sridevi passed away in 2018. She was only 54.
Cold day wedding: Viewers would probably think that the wedding scene was filmed on a pleasant summer day, but it was actually filmed on a very cold autumn day. People were dressed in warm coats between shoots. All the support staff who were not on camera were wearing warm clothes and gloves. Click here for this behind the scenes clip and notice that Sridevi was wearing a winter coat and the other actors were rubbing their hands to stay warm when they were not being filmed. All the actors did a great job and did not let the cold weather hinder the wedding scene.
About the song: This song is an adaptation of a Marathi folk song. First few lines of the song are in Marathi and the later parts are in Hindi. In the later part of the song, the family of the bride tells the groom to take care of the bride because she is like a delicate flower. Lead singer Sunidhi Chauhan has sung this song in her lively voice beautifully. Swanand Kirkire was the lyricist of the song and was also the playback singer for Shashi's husband (Adil Hussain). Natalie Di Luccio was the voice for an American wedding guest. Another singer in the song is Neelambari Kirkire who is a classical singer and Swanand Kirkire's mother. This is a very popular song from this movie.

Director Gauri Shinde : The film was directed and written by Gauri Shinde. She has stated that the inspiration for the movie was her own mother. It appears that she has incorporated many of her own life experiences in the movie, which makes the movie quite realistic. Shinde made her directorial debut with this film. She won the prestigious Filmfare award for the Best Debut Director for this movie and many other awards as well.
